No Excuses So Keep Moving Forward…
During our life, and in our recovery, we are faced with feelings and challenges that bring us to the edge of anxiety, stress and frustration. Going through all of these feelings, stressors and emotions can bring upon uncomfortableness... an uncomfortableness that you may think can only be soothed by Ed. That is wrong.
Yoga Therapy
While I was in treatment, I participated in yoga classes every week to learn how to relax and connect my mind and body. I really took to it. In fact, yoga had such a positive and calming effect on me that after I left Walden I decided to add it to my recovery plan and enroll in regular classes.
Fear—The Dentist
I came across an old blog the other day in my file and thought I would share it with you in its entirety. It is a great reminder that fear can be conquered no matter how scary it is and when you conquer it, the experience and feelings that come from pushing through it are amazing. We are all faced with fear and anxiety and it presents itself in many forms but know the fear doesn’t have to consume you or have control. Look fear in the face and forge ahead. You are strong enough!!
Aly Raisman’s Reflection On Her Soaring Partnership With Walden
I've been working with Walden for a few months now, and my experiences are getting better each time. The work they are having me do with them is so valuable and enriching. In my last visit to Walden, I met with the patients being treated in Walden’s inpatient unit for the first time. Honestly, I didn't know what to expect when I first walked in, and I had no clue how I was going to be received. I was pleasantly surprised to see that the patients were comfortable around me and very welcoming.
Feelings And Strength Can Co-exist
The purpose of this blog is for reassurance. Reassurance in the fact that you can feel and be strong at the same time.  Over the past few days, I was talking to two different people at two different times and I was crying to each one of them as I was feeling very sad about something.
Brave
Brave: Having or showing the ability to do something that is difficult or dangerous. Having or showing the mental or moral strength to venture, persevere and withstand danger, fear or difficulty. To say that recovery from an eating disorder takes bravery is an understatement.
Aly Raisman: A Positive Role Model For All
I sat with Aly Raisman and shared with her my story of recovery and various aspects of what it is like to suffer from this illness. Her interest to become more knowledgeable in eating disorders was wonderful to witness and exciting for both of us to engage in. I then accompanied her on a visit with the patients where she shared personal highlights of herself and her life. Her words of encouragement, a confident presence and genuine smile infused the patients with the strength they needed to continue to move forward in their recovery.
School’s Involvement in Walden’s Adolescent IOP Treatment Plan
As the community outreach associate for Walden Behavioral Care, I am responsible for the creation and scheduling of educational presentations for medical professionals, mental health practitioners and school administrators. Being that Walden uses the Maudsley approach (an intensive family-oriented approach to eating disorder treatment) for our adolescents, school faculty members are encouraged to participate in the treatment of a student who is reintegrating back into regular routines after an extended amount of time in treatment.
The Importance Of Self-Care On The Eating Disorder Recovery Journey
When we are with Ed it can be difficult to care for ourselves. It is difficult to see positives and it is difficult to have self-love. Caring for ourselves from the inside out, both mind and body, can be a challenge as Ed is loud and overpowering. It may be a challenge, but it’s not impossible. You can do it.
Social Media Literacy: Navigating The Hashtags, Profile Pictures, and Status Updates Throughout Recovery
What is one of the very first things you do each morning? If you said check social media, you answered the same as 80% of people. There are more devices connected to the Internet than there are people on Earth. Social media is everywhere, and it can play a significant role along the road to eating disorder recovery.
