Recovery, Summer And Loving Your Body Can Go Together

As the temperature rises in summer, so can the anxiety around body image. Summer is usually the time for shorts, bathing suits, dresses, and capris.  For those in recovery, it can feel overwhelming and scary to think about putting on a bathing suit or a pair of shorts. Despite the fear of it, the negative body image that may arise and Ed yelling at you, you can take steps to enjoy the summer fun!

Many of the parents that bring their teen to treatment at Walden often ask, “Why did my child get an eating disorder?” Some parents wonder if the many pressures that teens face on a daily basis contribute to the development of their child’s eating disorder. Unfortunately, there is not one simple answer or cause. Eating disorders are complex and best explained by using a biopsychosocial model when approaching both cause and treatment.

FDA Approves Drug To Treat Binge Eating

The National Eating Disorders Association reports that 20 million women and 10 million men in the United States suffer from an eating disorder, including anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa and binge eating disorder. In January, the Food and Drug Administration approved the use of Vyvanse (lisdexamfetamine) for individuals diagnosed with binge eating disorder. The drug has been used to treat attention deficit hyperactivity disorder since 2007.
