Aly Raisman-98Last weekend, I went to the Boston Health & Fitness Expo for the first time, and I was really excited to be a part of it with the team from Walden. It was great to see so many people come out to the Expo to share a common interest in fitness, health and wellness, as those are three things that are obviously an important part of my life. Walden had these really cool t-shirts made up that we all wore. The front said “let’s talk about it” and the back said “join the conversation” and the goal of the shirts was to encourage people to talk about the dangers of eating disorders instead of ignoring the issue or pushing it aside. What a lot of people don’t realize is that eating disorders are a serious mental illness, and they are in fact the most deadly mental illness. At the Expo, we all wore the shirts and our hope is that we can encourage more people to talk about eating disorders so we can all work together to help prevent more eating disorders and educate people about the dangers and facts associated with them. I thought the Expo was a great success for Walden. A lot of people stopped by the booth to get information, ask questions and share their appreciation for the work that everyone at Walden is doing. It made me even more proud than I already am to be a part of the team and I believe that if we all keep working towards the common goal of educating people and encouraging people to talk about eating disorders, we can make a big difference moving forward.
