Meet the Director – Walden’s Eating Disorders Residential Program

Thank you for your interest in Walden Behavioral Care’s residential program. I hope that you have found the information on our pages to be helpful. I understand that you have many choices when it comes to your recovery and journey with eating disorder treatment. Our commitment is to provide you with the skills, tools and experience you will need to manage your symptoms and progress towards wellness once you leave our facility.

At Walden’s residential program, you will work with a multi-disciplinary team of providers, including therapists, dietitians, nurse practitioners, mental health counselors, expressive therapists and other integral staff. They are a dedicated team, committed to providing the best care to meet your specific needs. You can expect to meet with your individual providers multiple times each week and will participate in group treatment facilitated by clinical staff daily. Groups are centered in evidence-based treatment modalities including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT).

For the adult residents, exposure therapy is a key component of our program. You will help plan, prepare and cook your meals. Within a very home-like environment, we aim to support you around increased variety and flexibility with what you are willing to eat, and what you feel safe eating. We also provide every other week outings that focus on how to manage your behaviors in varied settings; this is typically a combination of a food exposure along with a fun activity to replicate “normal” life.

For parents or guardians who are entrusting us with your adolescent, we expect you to partake weekly in treatment. Our evidence-based treatment is Family-Based Therapy (FBT), makes you an active part – and in a way, the most important asset – to your child’s treatment team. Our goal is that you would be able to participate in family meetings, family therapy and meal coaching. Your adolescent will work closely with their providers daily, and participate in evidence-based groups that focus on skills related to DBT and CBT.

Treatment at the residential level is a learning opportunity. Our residential team feels fortunate to meet you at this stage in your treatment and looks forward to working with you to develop a treatment plan that will help you reach your recovery goals.
