B’SHALOM IOP Program

Providing Intensive Outpatient Eating Disorder Treatment for Jewish Adults

Walden’s B’SHALOM is a Virtual Intensive Outpatient Eating Disorder Program and the only of its kind in the U.S. B’SHALOM was founded specifically for adult members who identify with the Jewish faith and see religion as an integral part of their healing process. B’SHALOM will offer guidance in balancing nutritional needs, faith, and eating disorder recovery with a heightened sensitivity toward confidentiality.

Mission

B’SHALOM in Hebrew means with peace. Our mission is to offer folks an opportunity to feel peace in their bodies, peace in their healing, and peace in their treatment. Our goal is to equip Jewish individuals with the support to practice their religious faith while recognizing the unique challenges they face in eating disorder recovery.

Expert Team

Our multidisciplinary team is made up of experts including senior leadership member Rebekah Doweyko, clinical supervisor lead Lieba Swartz-Brownstein, Rabbi and clinician Shlomo Bogart and Rabbi and counselor Eli Bogart, as well as art therapist Becca Weinberger. As members of the Jewish faith and licensed professionals, we understand the importance of Kosher meal planning, rituals around food, historical context, and the role of religion at the intersection of eating disorder recovery.

Eating Disorder Program Elements

We welcome all folks who identify as Jewish. This includes folks across a wide range of Jewish practice and observance.

Each patient receives an individualized assessment through evidence-based treatment, counseling, group education and exposure to essential life skills that allow them to thrive alongside their Jewish faith as they navigate eating disorder recovery. As a team, we will explore Jewish-based topics including rituals around nourishment, cultural barriers in recovery, self-image through a religious framework, family tradition, vicarious historical trauma, and patterns of perfectionism.
