Only 10 Percent of People with Eating Disorders Seek and Receive Treatment
A new clinic in Amherst has a mission of bringing relief to people with eating disorders, particularly college students.

Walden Behavioral Care has moved its Northampton office close to UMass in Amherst. It is the only area clinic specializing in the treatment of eating disorders.

The University Drive location will provide easier access for students in the Five-college area.

Program Director Angela Rowan told 22News, “Many people first get identified with eating disorders when they’re in their teens or early twenties, so college students have always been a large portion.”

According to Walden Behavioral Care, only 10 percent of people with eating disorders seek and receive treatment. Eating disorders have the highest mortality rate of any psychiatric illness.
